For Counselors

Overview.  Halstrom has three campuses inSouthern California offering over 100 courses and has educated more than 15,000 students over the past 25 years.  Halstrom has had strong relationships with schools across Southern California. We educate students who seek supplemental instruction, credit recovery, accelerated courses, and special accommodations.  Halstrom provides a full range of educational services including full-time enrollment for grades 7-12, courses for credit,SAT / ACT / AP test prep, and college admissions counseling.

1 to 1 Instruction.  Halstrom teaches its students through personalized live one-to-one live instruction on-campus and online.  Our semester-length course consists of 15-17 appointments with a minimum of five hours of study required for each appointment.  Our instruction is based on the research of Dr. Benjamin Bloom, a pioneer in education and professor fromUniversity ofChicago, who found that learning occurs at a rate of 98% with one-to-one instruction.

Mastery Learning.  Students must master the assignment at 80% or better before moving on to the next assignment. During the live session, teachers will re-teach anything that is necessary, preview the next assignment, and teach the next lesson.  Halstrom monitors learning through standardized pre and post tests, teacher evaluations, attendance, and completion of assignments.

Flexible scheduling.  Halstrom allows students the flexibility to schedule classes based on their needs, preferences, and goals.  For example, a student who missed too many classes at his/her regular school due to illness can catch up on credits through an accelerated coursework timeline.

Accredited and Approved Courses.  Halstrom is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) through 2016.  Our courses are certified "a-g" by theUniversity ofCalifornia and approved by the NCAA.  Halstrom also offers AP courses approved by the College Board.  To verify course listings online, please visit the following sites:
